The ultra orthodox Jewish neighbourhood of Mea Sherim is very close to our district in Jerusalem, though we live in an Arab area. A big road now divides these two areas - which until 1967 was also the border between Israel and what was then Jordan. Only diplomats could cross over.
Now we are all free to roam - though in Mea Sherim you need to make sure you're appropriately dressed.

These people really don't like their picture taken. You probably made them very uncomfortable by taking their picture.
ReplyDeleteThere are all kinds of groups of ultra-orthodox Jews. The ones you took pictures of seem to belong to the more extreme groups which are not Zionists and some don't even apply for any social stipends from the state because of that.
To these people the Zionists had no right to re-establish a home for the Jews in the holy land. This should only happen they believe when the Messiah comes redeems the Jewish people and then the 3rd Jewish temple will be built in Jerusalem.
